Obituary for Candise Laagland

Peacefully at the Hospice House, Fredericton, Candise Laagland passed away on December 22, 2021. Candise was born on March 6, 1959 daughter of the late Richard and Edith (Swazey) Hitchcock. She is survived by her loving husband, Rein; sisters Pam Demerchant and Shaun Kowalchuk; brothers, Brian, Randy, Michael, Jeff and Charles Hitchcock; step-daughter Shelly McGrath (Jason); step-son Micheal (Teena); grandchildren, Brent, Brandon and Brooklynn and 8 great-grandchildren.

Candise battled cancer for almost 8 years and in that time she and Rein filled a lot of their Bucket list in that time. Candise loved the Lord and was able to tell others about him in her final few years. She was so grateful for her church family and friends, family that took the time to pray for her and send well wishes. She was also grateful for Dr. Anan, Dr. Swan, Dr. Broad and the entire staff of the oncology wing of DECH in Fredericton where they worked so hard to give her quality of life that she received while in their care. Dr. Peter Dickinson and the Saint John Extra Mural. Finally she would like to thank Hospice Fredericton for the loving and compassionate care she received in the final few weeks she was on earth.

A Celebration of Candise’s life will be held at a later date once the Covid-19 restriction are lifted.
Memorial donations in memory of Candise made to the Hospice Fredericton or the Fredericton Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
