It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Irene Straight of Youngs Cove, NB on Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital at the age of 90. Doris was born in Coles Island, NB on September 5, 1932 the daughter of the late Edward and Nellie (Clark) Lewis.

Doris will be sadly missed by her husband Stephen; siblings Irene Jenkins and Reginald (Peggy Smith); many nieces and nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers; Lee, Harold and Edward Lewis; sisters, Violet Thompson, Phyllis Hatt and Fern Jeffery.

Doris was a beautiful quilter, her quilts were sold all over the United States and Canada. She had lots of help from her cat Ms. Elli on many of these quilts. Her passion was working on the farm in Bagdad with Stephen. What ever needed to be done she was all in, her cows were very well cared for.

She loved to hunt, deer, moose and birds, she was a sure shot! She grew her vegetables and would make preserves and jams to go with her meat. The freezer was always full for winter. This woman’s cooking and baking skills were top notch !! Her home made bread was hands down the best bread anyone ever tasted !!! Along with her pies and cookies.

Doris took great pride in all of her flower gardens she had many different variety of flowers which were all done so beautifully and she loved the birds, she could tell you the exact date of their spring arrival, everything was noted in her journal.

Doris loved her family. Each child that had the chance to meet her would never forgot her and how she played and had fun with each of them.
