Obituary for Hazen B. Haines

“A strong man is a great man of wisdom who understands, his top priority is to his family.”

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Hazen Haines, peacefully the morning of March 6th, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Hazen was born in Fredericton on April 26th, 1935, and predeceased by his mother who passed when he was very young. He was raised by his late aunt who he referred to as Grammie Ferris.

Hazen was also predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Stella, whom he is happy to rejoin. In addition, he is predeceased by his two older sisters, Sarah and Anna.

Hazen will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his three children Susan (Rick) Burns, Donnie (Eveleen) Haines, and Cindy (Marc) Beaulieu. Throughout his life, he made sure his children had everything they needed and wanted. He was proud of his six grandchildren Stacey, Jason, Dustin, Shannon, Matthew, and Mallory, and was Great Grampie to Emily, Jessica, Jaxon, Taylor, Addison, and Kennedy. In addition, he will be remembered by brother and sister-in-law Ed and Gertrude Ferris and his nieces.

From his early days working on a Merchant Marine ship, to 14-hour plus days delivering soil, asphalt, and oil, or ploughing neighbors’ driveways, Hazen was a man of generosity, dependability, and strength. Throughout his life, he enjoyed caring for his home and property—from tending to his vegetable garden to wood working projects, Hazen took pride in his work. In later years, he enjoyed long Sunday afternoon drives with his wife, morning coffee with his loyal friend Bob Gorman, and could often be found on a hot summer’s day, sitting under the large pine tree with his friends or family.

Hazen was a member of the Anglican Parish of St. Mary and his service will be held there on Monday, March 13th, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of Hazen Haines made to the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or donors choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
