Obituary for Marlene Sharon Crawford (Landry)

Crawford, Marlene S. (Landry) - September 27, 1946 to November 30, 2021
With a heavy heart but an appreciation for a life well lived, the family of Marlene Sharon (Landry) Crawford of Saint John, NB, announce her peaceful passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on November 30, 2021.

Born on September 27, 1946, to the late Thelma (Brown) and Johnny Landry, family was everything to Marlene. She loved reminiscing about the time she spent during childhood with her beloved Grammie Brown on the Bellisle where she learned to garden, cook, and make delicious pies and pickles. Marlene’s caring nature was evident early in childhood and Johnny and Thelma were delighted when she announced her decision to pursue nursing after graduation from Saint John High School. She made many lifelong friends at the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing and after a short time working in emergency medicine in Ottawa, moved back to her hometown and focused on raising her young family. Marlene began working with seniors and had a way with her residents - she absolutely adored them and the feeling was mutual. She retired from Carleton Kirk Lodge in 2006 and developed new talents, becoming an expert candle maker and clover honey enthusiast. She also fell in love with camping and spent her summers at her trailer with her large, adopted “Pinecone Family” in Sussex. Marlene’s all time favourite activity was spending time with her family and friends. She was her son’s biggest cheerleader, never missing a baseball game. Marlene had a wonderful laugh and made friends wherever she went. She loved discussing politics and world events and was an avid reader of mystery novels. Her favourite holiday was Christmas and loved spending time decorating and preparing to host dinner for the family. Marlene will be remembered for her generosity of spirit and love of life.

Marlene is survived by her sons, Scott (Pam Sheppard) of Riverview and Shawn (Alexandra Ljungstrom) of the Kingston Peninsula who will miss her terribly. She is also survived by her sister and lifelong best friend Sonya Bastrache and her husband, Al of Havelock and niece Cindy McEachern and great nephew Ethan Lumsden of Moncton.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. A private funeral service will be held but for those who would like to livestream the service online, please email: ServiceForMarlene@gmail.com and a link will be sent to you. The family invites you to make donations in Marlene’s memory to one of her favourite charities: the Carleton Kirk Lodge, ONE Change Inc., or the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Chipman Funeral Home Ltd. & Crematorium. (339-6612). Memories and condolences may be shared through www.chipmanfuneralhome.ca
