Obituary for Mary Martha Lemon (Hopkins)

Mary Martha (Hopkins) Lemon, born January 13, 1926 on the Hopkins Road in Gaspereau Forks, N.B., passed peacefully on the morning of Friday, June 17, 2022 of natural causes in the Oromocto Hospital at the age of 96.

Mary is predeceased by her husband, Howard Lemon, as well as her parents, Carl & Beatrice (Murray) Hopkins. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family which included brothers Murray Hopkins, Charlie Hopkins, Goldwyn Hopkins & sisters Hazel Hopkins, Murina Laskey, Myrtle Burpee, Fay Scott, Dorothy Chase, Ruby Anderson, Ruth Somerville & Verna Glenn.

She is survived by her four sons: Leonard (Annette), David (Patricia), Harold (Cheryl), and Carlo (Cindy); seven grandchildren: Karla, Brad, Jonathan, Andrew, Lindsay, Blake, and Carcyn; five great-grandchildren: Adam, Leah, Ethan, Abby & Emma, as well as many nieces & nephews.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Gaspereau Forks, just outside of Chipman, NB. She was very active within the community & a member of 1st Chipman United Baptist Church in Gaspereau Forks. She was also a member of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association for more than 50 years, including serving as Grand Officer of R.W. Grand LOBA of N.B. Mary and Howard dedicated much of their time to the Orange Lodge & travelled throughout Canada attending many conventions. She was also very involved with volunteer work with the Kidney Foundation of Canada and was honoured with the March Drive Award of Merit in 1998 in recognition of her contribution. Mary would also serve for a time as the President of her local chapter of the PC Women’s association.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the Chipman Funeral Home between 2p – 4pm & 6p – 8pm. Funeral will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 at the 2nd Chipman United Baptist Church in Chipman at 2pm, officiated by Rev. Gerald Burke.

Remembrance of Mary can be made to the N.B. Kidney Foundation, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of N.B., of which Mary was also a volunteer.
