Obituary for Murray Irvine Allen

With his children, Kelly and Kurt, at his side, Murray “Murph” Allen, of Fredericton, passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday, November 25 at the age of 89.

Born in his beloved hometown of Fredericton in 1933, Murph spent most of his working years as an insurance adjuster and was the proud owner of Capital Adjustment. He later enjoyed his work with Stanley Mutual. Murph was an outdoorsman, a hockey and baseball player, a golfer and an avid Blue Jays fan. Though he was a committed Leaf’s fan, recently he was forced to betray his allegiances in favour of the Montreal Canadiens to cheer on his grandson, the goaltender for the Habs. He was also one of the founding members of Fredericton Sports Investment.

Murph was the son of the late Wilfred and Grace (Gibson) Allen. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Smylie) Allan. “Bobbie”, as he was known by family, leaves behind grandchildren and partners, Jake and Shannon Allen, Jordan Allen and Smriti Singh, Taylor Allen, Alex MacIsaac and Jenna Short, Maggie MacIsaac and Andrew McQuaid; and great-grandchildren, Lennon, Reagan and Cohen Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge its sincere appreciation to Dr. Anand Irrinki and the staff of 4SW.

There will be no funeral at his request, but there will be a small family gathering in the summer of 2023.  Should you want to donate in Murph’s name, the family suggests The Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc.

Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Chipman Funeral Home Ltd. & Crematorium. (339-6612) Memories and condolences may be shared through www.chipmanfuneralhome.ca.
