Obituary for Nancy Louise Lyons

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Nancy (Nana Nan) Louise Lyons announce her peaceful passing on Friday, December 30th, 2022.  Born in Hamilton, Ontario on February 2, 1959, she was the daughter of the late William and Marley (Molly) Cleland.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 18 years, Winston Lyons; children: Michel Boyer (Amy) and Chris Boyer; grandchildren: Emily Darrah (Brandon) and Molly Boyer; siblings: Janet Goretski (Peter) and Bill (Molly) Cleland; dog babies: Halee and Nutmeg; granddogs: Whiskey and Bailey as well as many extended family members and friends.

Nancy was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman.  She wrote her own rules and paved her own way. If you said she couldn’t do it, she would make sure she could.  She lived life to the fullest and focused on many hobbies and projects.  She was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.  Filling bellies filled her heart.

She also loved working in her gardens at home in Durham Bridge and at “The Camp” in Doaktown, growing vegetables, plants and beautiful flowers.

Most of all she loved her family.  She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. “Love you to the moon and back.”

To honor Nancy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. We invite you to please privately celebrate Nancy’s memory in your own way. We know that she will be with us all in spirit.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Women in Transition House.

In the still of the night, to the sound of the rain
I open my heart and release all the pain
I’m cleansed from the muck and the mire and the dirt
I bathe in the moon as I slough off the hurt
My ears are awake at the sounds of the trees
I raise up my arms and I fall to my knees
I’m sheathed in the light of a lunar embrace
I lick at the drops as they fall on my face
With my head to the sky and my eyes gently closed
My heart open wide and my thoughts unimposed
I breathe in the air with its musk-laden scent
Ridding my soul of all miscontent
In the still of the night, to the sound of the rain
A smile finds my lips and I’m free once again
