Obituary for Roberta "Bertie" Emily Doucette

It is with great sadness that the family of Roberta “Bertie” Emily Doucette (Craig) announces her passing on January 14, 2023 at Hospice Fredericton after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Bertie was born in Chipman, N.B., to the late Miller and Elsie (Edmanson) Craig on August 3, 1937. She is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Melvin) Barton, Dale (Brian) Phillips and Karen (Stephen Laskey); grandsons Vincent Barton (Melissa), Robbi Barton (Denise) and Justin Chase (Candice); great-grandchildren Cole Barton, Jada, Daxon and Addi Chase; sister-in-law Alice (Fernand) Breau, brother-in-law Raymond (Sylvia) Savoy of Miramichi; also left to mourn her passing is life-long friend and cousin Joanie Lamb; long-time special friends Myra Armstrong, Esther Boyd, Marg Hay and Mildred Bishop; close friends Ellie & Stephen Caissie; as well as many cousins, neices, and nephews.

Besides her parents, Bertie was predeceased by her husband Emery Doucette in 1998, sisters Elizabeth Andries and Mary Scribner, sisters-in-law Doris Lynch and Flora Field, brothers-in-law Dan Doucette and Roy Savoy.

Bertie grew up in Chipman where she continued to live and raise her family. She was a stay-at-home mom when her girls were young. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, music, dancing, playing cards and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids. Later in life Bertie enjoyed 4-wheeling, fishing and hunting with her partner Ben Caissie. She also loved playing bingo, bowling and playing washer toss. She had a competitive spirit, resulting in her “bringing home the trophy” on several occasions.

Bertie was a member of the Chipman Christian Life Center and always looked forward to attending church services and spending time with her church family. She was fun-loving, had a kind heart and was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 11:30 – 1:45 at the Chipman Funeral Home. The funeral service will also be held at the Chipman Funeral home at 2 o'clock following visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Chipman Bowl-a-Rama, Chipman Christian Life Center or Hospice Fredericton would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Chipman Funeral Home & Crematorium (339-6612). Memories and condolences may be shared through www.chipmanfuneralhome.ca.
